It's 2 Months Until Lacrosse Season! What You Need to Do...
Stay sharp, lacrosse and football, and more.
Good morning.
I’m Jake and this is Recruit Report presented by Apex Lacrosse Events.
I’m your friend who tells you everything you need to know about high school lacrosse.
Spots for Apex 60 Showcase are filling up quickly.
Over 650 ALUMNI are now playing college lacrosse, and there’s over 80 college lacrosse coaches attending.
Spots are closing soon, and you can fill out an interest form here.
Now, let’s get into it!
How to Stay Sharp Over Christmas Break
It’s crazy to say, but December is finally here. For you, that probably means a few things:
It’s starting to get really cold
Finals/big tests before the holidays
Christmas break
If you’re a lacrosse player, Christmas break is a valuable time where you get to decide how your next season will shape up. Here are 3 tips to focus on during Christmas break that will set you up for February:
#1: Conditioning
With all the food, rest and distractions that come with the holidays, something that often gets overlooked is conditioning.
If you can maintain (or even improve) your conditioning level through the break, that’s a win.
Make it a goal to do some sort of conditioning every day, even if it’s simple as one sprint or one lap around the driveway.
#2: Keep it Simple
Another trap I see players fall into is making an elaborate training plan for the break, only to feel like a failure when they don’t complete it.
Instead, stick to the basics. Things like wallball, shooting workouts, and familiar drills will serve you best.
Just like conditioning, a goal could be trying to do some sort of stickwork every day, even if it’s cradling inside the house for 5 minutes.
#3: Increase Your Lacrosse IQ
If you’re traveling and won’t have your stick, there’s still a great way to get better: watching film.
I have a challenge for you: pick one replay of a college lacrosse game (go on YouTube) and start watching it. Pick one player who plays your position, and track them the entire game.
How do they move off-ball? If they make a mistake, what would you have done differently? If they score or make a good defensive play, how can you replicate it?
If you focus on these areas, you’ll be way ahead of the competition.
The Football/Lacrosse Connection Is Real
Last email we talked about Jordan Faison, a Notre Dame lacrosse commit and football walk-on, who’s now a full-fledged scholarship football player.
This week, it’s all about Tyler Buchner. The former Michigan lacrosse commit ended up playing college football at Notre Dame, and transferred to Alabama 2 years later. He even got a start this year for the Crimson Tide, but now he’s decided to take his talents back to lacrosse.
Inside Lacrosse reported that Buchner will go back to South Bend and join Notre Dame for the 2024 season. Will he have a breakout year?
Featured Recruit: Brock Catlin (Class of 2027)
Brock’s highlight reel popped up on my YouTube feed, and let’s just say, I’m glad I watched.
The freshman middie from Florida has a nasty shot on the run, and I love his explosive hitch and go dodge.
I don’t think this is the last we’ll be hearing of Brock’s name.
As always, his highlights are on repeat for me this week!
Remember, every week we feature a recruit. Respond to this email to nominate a player!
Talk to you soon.
P.S. Make sure to fill out an interest form before the Apex 60 Showcase before spots close.
Best,
Jake
