3 Months Until Lacrosse Season: You Need to Do This…

And why the best player in D1 might be a D3 player...

Good morning.

I’m Jake and this is Recruit Report presented by Apex Lacrosse Events.

I’m your friend who tells you everything you need to know about high school lacrosse.

Apex just opened up applications for the Apex 60 Showcase.

Over 600 ALUMNI are now playing college lacrosse, and there’s over 80 college lacrosse coaches attending.

Spots are closing soon, and you can fill out an interest form here.

Now, let’s get into it!

3 Months Until Lacrosse Season: You Need to Do This…

It’s hard to believe, but there are only 3 months until lacrosse season. In just 12 short weeks, the greatest sport on earth will be back in February.

That means you have 12 weeks to get ahead and become the best lacrosse player you can be. I’ve seen players make massive leaps in their game in that amount of time.

But the opposite can be true too. These next 12 weeks will be filled with plenty of life events. Thanksgiving, finals, the holiday season, new years, etc.

It will be easy to be distracted or make excuses for why you can’t work on your game.

I want you to ask yourself: where do I want to be at the end of those 12 weeks?

Instead of trying to come up with a complex plan, come up with 1 or 2 things you want accomplish every week for 12 weeks. Some examples:

  • 5+ days of wallball/week

  • 100+ shots, faceoffs, defensive drills, etc./week

  • 3 days of sprinting/week

  • 2 long runs/week

Then get out an old fashioned pen and paper, and write week 1, week 2, etc. Put this on your fridge or hang it up in your room. Every week, when you accomplish the task, write it down on the paper.

When the season starts, keep this piece of paper in your lacrosse bag whenever you need motivation or encouragement. It will serve as a reminder of your hard work.

If you do this, send us a picture and you might be featured in a Recruit Report!

The Best Player in D1 Lacrosse Might Be a D3 Lacrosse Player

As we all know, the transfer portal completely changed college lacrosse.

Chris Fake transferred from Yale to Notre Dame, and he held Brennan O’Neill to 1 goal to help the Irish win their first national championship game.

Jonathan Donville and Keeghan Khan transferred to Maryland in 2022, and they were both in the top 4 scorers for the Terps en route to their national championship.

Charlie Bertrand transferred from formerly D2 Merrimack to UVA and was a huge part in their 2021 national championship run.

Well this year, the most important transfer to D1 might be Jack Boyden. Formerly at D3 powerhouse Tufts, Boyden put up video game numbers for the Jumbos in 2023, scoring 69 goals and 88 assists as an attackman.

Boyden is suiting up for Virginia this spring, and he’s already made his presence known. In a scrimmage against Colgate, the Candian dropped a casual 6 goals in his first D1 action.

I don’t think this is the last time you’ll be hearing about him.

Featured Recruit: Finley Watson

This is one of my new favorite recruits in high school lacrosse.

Finley is a big 6’1 Canadian attackman who’s as crafty as any recruit I’ve seen.

IL ranked him a 4-star recruit, and he committed to Ohio State where I think he’ll slot in perfectly for the Buckeyes.

His highlights are on repeat for me this week!

Remember, every week we feature a recruit. Respond to this email to nominate a player!

Talk to you soon.

P.S. Make sure to fill out an interest form before the Apex 60 Showcase before spots close.

Best,

Jake
