This D1 Lacrosse Coach Tells You HOW TO GET RECRUITED
Get recruited, Netflix Might Buy the PLL, and more.
Good morning.
I’m Jake and this is Recruit Report presented by Apex Lacrosse Events.
I’m your friend who tells you everything you need to know about high school lacrosse.
Apex just opened up limited spots for the Apex Fall National Showcase.
Over 200 alumni are now playing D1 lacrosse, and there’s over 30 college lacrosse coaches attending.
Spots are closing soon, and you can fill out an interest form here.
Now, let’s get into it!
This D1 Lacrosse Coach Tells You HOW TO GET RECRUITED
Nick Myers is the head coach for D1 powerhouse Ohio State. He recently did a podcast with Terry Foy from Inside Lacrosse, and it’s a goldmine of recruiting advice.
Here’s my biggest takeaway:
When Myers is evaluating recruits, he immediately visualizes a current college or pro player with a similar style of play.
For example: let’s say there’s a big strong lefty shooter that likes to dodge from the wing. He’ll think “that guy plays like Brennan O’Neill.”
This makes it easier for him to remember his notes, and also helps him think how a player might fit in his offensive system.
But Jake…why should I care about this?
Because you can use this to help you get recruited!
Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Start by taking the game’s best players, breaking down their game and applying it to your own game.
If you’re a small shifty X attackman, watch every Michael Sowers game, highlight and interview. Replicate his exact dodges in your backyard.
Once you become an expert at that, then you can add your own flair and style into your game.
You Need to Do This on September 1st
We’re three weeks away from September 1st. Aka, the day college coaches can start reaching out to you.
Even if you aren’t a junior yet, listen up.
Here’s how to immediately stand out from everyone else when a coach calls you: research the school beforehand.
Coaches will be calling dozens of players in the next few months, and any edge that can make you stand out is important.
If you want to play for a specific program, research more about the team and school.
What do you like about the school? What questions do you have?
If you can clearly articulate why you want to play there and demonstrate that you’ve done your research, you already have a leg up.
Netflix Almost Bought the PLL
Front Office Sports recently reported that Netflix was in serious talks to buy the entire PLL last year.
That would certainly be the biggest acquisition in lacrosse history.
It seems like talks have died down since, but that hasn’t kept me from dreaming about the future of lacrosse.
Lacrosse is growing and the level of play is only getting better. There are 7th graders better now than high schoolers 10 years ago.
If you’re a lacrosse player or fan: you picked the right sport. It’s only up from here.
Featured Recruit: Ollie Nolting
Asher Nolting is in contention to win the PLL MVP this year.
But his brother Ollie, might have even more upside.
As a sophomore, Ollie became the youngest All-American in Colorado lacrosse history this season.
His style of play is similar to his brother: big, physical, hard-nosed lacrosse. But he also has a change of direction and speed that separates him.
These highlights are on repeat for me this week.
Remember, every week we feature a recruit. Respond to this email to nominate a player!
Talk to you soon.
Best,
Jake
