How to DOMINATE at Lacrosse Tryouts

How to Make Your Team, Big Coaching News, and More.

Good morning.

I’m Jake and this is Recruit Report presented by Apex Lacrosse Events.

I’m your friend who tells you everything you need to know about high school lacrosse.

Apex just opened up limited spots for the Apex Fall National Showcase.

Over 200 alumni are now playing D1 lacrosse, and there’s over 30 college lacrosse coaches attending.

Spots are closing soon, and you can fill out an interest form here.

Now, let’s get into it!

How to DOMINATE at Tryouts

Tryouts.

Whether you love them or hate them, tryouts are a huge “make or break” moment for lacrosse players.

If you want to play for the best clubs, showcases and high school teams, you have to be able to play well under pressure.

Today is Week 1 of a 5-Week series where we help you dominate tryouts.

Here’s Part 1: crush the run test.

Almost every lacrosse team I know does some sort of run test as a way to see if players are in shape.

Here’s the thing - most returning varsity players get lazy and don’t train that hard and end up failing the run test. They are complacent because they know theyre probably gonna make varsity again.

But you can use this to your advantage and crush the run test and stand out from everyone else.

If you don’t know whether your school has a run test or not, get in touch with your lacrosse coach or see if you can message any current players on the team.

For example, my school did a run test where we had to run a mile and a half in 9 minutes which was brutal.

Marcus Holman, one of the best lacrosse players in the world, told me that one of the main reasons he got playing time as a freshman at UNC was because he was the only freshman to pass the run test.

You can do the same thing. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week.

Dave Pietramala Is Heading to UNC

The legendary coach is leaving Syracuse and heading down to Chapel Hill. He’ll join his two sons Nick and Dom who will be sophomores this year.

My two big questions:

  1. How does this affect Syracuse’s recruiting?

  2. How does this affect UNC’s recruiting?

Pietramala is widely considered to be one of the defensive players ever, and one of the best defensive coordinators in the college game.

Will we see any top Syracuse commits flip their commitment to the Tar Heels?

Featured Recruit: Ben Morris

In early June we reported top lacrosse recruit Hunter Chauvette flipping his commitment from Yale to Johns Hopkins.

Chauvette is one of the most talented lefty shooters in lacrosse, being dubbed the next Mac O’Keefe.

I’m not sure if this directly related to Chauvette’s commitment, but a lefty sniper originally committed to Hopkins has switched his commitment to Navy.

His name is Ben Morris, and I think he also has the talent to gun for a spot as one of college lacrosse’s best lefty shooters.

Navy now has 10 four-star lacrosse commits in the class of 2024.

Talk to you soon!

Best,

Jake
