Is Johns Hopkins Lacrosse BACK?
The Jays are Back, HUGE coaching news, and more.
Good morning.
I’m Jake and this is Recruit Report presented by Apex Lacrosse.
We’re your friend who tells you everything you need to know about high school lacrosse.
We just opened up limited spots for the Apex Fall National Showcase.
Over 200 alumni are now playing D1 lacrosse, and there’s over 30 college lacrosse coaches attending.
Spots are closing soon, and you can fill out an interest form here.
Now, let’s get into the news this week.
Hopkins lands IL’s #21 Senior Hunter Chauvette
Is Johns Hopkins the hottest D1 lacrosse team in the nation right now?
They might just be, after they snagged Lawrenceville superstar Hunter Chauvette and Cornell goalie Chayse Ierlan.
Hunter is coming off another 50+ goal season for Lawrenceville, the #1 team in the country. He’ll join his older brother Cam Chauvette down in Baltimore.
He’s one of the best outside shooters in all of high school lacrosse, and I see that translating perfectly to the college game.
Hopkins now boasts NINE 4-star recruits in the 2023 recruiting class.
What a ride for Hopkins coach Pete Milliman. After going 11-18 in his first two seasons, Hopkins made it back to playoff glory reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals and going 12-6 this season.
Is this the start of a huge comeback for the Blue Jays?
The Best Coach in College Lacrosse is Headed to Dartmouth
Dartmouth just announced that Sean Kirwan will be their newest coach. This is absolutely HUGE news.
Everything Kirwan touches, turns into gold.
He started his college lacrosse career at Tufts, helping the Jumbos win their first ever national championship. Then he stayed on as the offensive coordinator, helping Tufts win another national championship.
Then he became the offensive coordinator for Brown, where he helped the bears win two Ivy League titles and a trip to the Final Four.
For the last 7 years, he’s been at Virginia where he’s won 2 national championships and coached 18 All-Americans.
Now, he’s headed to Dartmouth, a program that won their first Ivy League game this year since 2015.
If I were an offensive player in high school, I’d seriously consider taking my talents to New Hampshire. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team as a national contender in less than 5 years.
The Transfer Portal is Changing Everything
Notre Dame won its semi-final game against Virginia with a goal from Brian Tevlin, a transfer from Yale. Irish defender Chris Fake is credited with locking down Brennan O’Neill in the final against Duke. Fake is also a transfer from Yale.
2 of Maryland’s top 5 scorers from last year were players from the transfer portal - Keegan Khan and Jonathan Donville.
Charlie Bertrand went from a top D2 player to helping UVA win a national championship in 2021. Now he’s on the Team USA roster.
Long story short, the transfer portal is becoming a huge part of lacrosse, and it’s only just the beginning.
In some ways, this is positive. Overlooked high school players now have the opportunity to transfer to better programs if they can prove themselves in the college game.
But in other ways, this is a negative. With more college teams adding players from the transfer portal, there’s less spots for high school recruits to join the team.
What do you think of the transfer portal? Let us know in the poll below.
Delbarton Scores 2 Goals in 90 Seconds to Win State Title
In one of the most dramatic high school lacrosse comebacks in recent memory, Delbarton stormed back against NJ rival Seton Hall Prep. Check out the video below:
Absolute madness in New Jersey.
Down 2 with less than 90 seconds to go, Delbarton gets two goals from @LeadingEdgeLax ‘25 Asher Testa to tie it, then ‘23 Nick Faccone racks the triple OT faceoff to give the Green Wave the Non-Public A state title over rival Seton Hall Prep!

Dublin Jerome Wins Ohio Lacrosse Title
Ohio Lacrosse is built different.
Dublin Jerome took down St. Xavier 12-10 in a game that featured plenty of high-level lacrosse recruits.
Marek Tzagournis scored 5 goals and broke the Ohio state lacrosse record previously held by Connor Buczek. Buczek went on to be a 1st team All-American in college. Tzagournis is committed to Denver, and look for him to have a big impact for the Pios next year.
St. X’s Khalif Hocker had a big game with 2 very nice goals. He’s a 5-star recruit looking to have a monster summer.
Featured Recruit: Josh Ameo
The South is becoming a hotbed for lacrosse.
2021 Tewaaraton winner Jared Bernhardt is from Florida. So is Notre Dame’s 1st team All-American midfielder Eric Dobson. Nakeie Montgomery grew up in Dallas, Texas.
Well this year, another player is putting the South on the map: Josh Ameo. The South Carolina native racked up a ridiculous 127 points this season, including 9 points in the state title game.
If you watch is highlights, you can immediately see why Ameo has the potential to play high-level D1 lacrosse. His change of direction and speed are insane. You can check out the full write-up at Lacrosse Bucket.
